Tom C. Palangio
Tom is managing director of Topex Inc. Explosive Consulting and also President of WipWare Inc. creators of
the WipFrag blast fragmentation analysis system and WipJoint joint mapping software. Tom has over 28 years
experience in the explosives industry beginning with DuPont of Canada, Explosives products Division in 1974,
joining Explosives Technologies International in 1988 and six years later forming Topex Inc. He has worked
with various research groups and organizations throughout the world and has a broad knowledge of explosives
manufacturing, applications testing and performance evaluation.
As an Explosives Technical Specialist Tom has used his extensive experience in blast instrumentation,
detonation physics and mining practices to monitor and troubleshoot hundreds of surface and underground
blasts. Tom has pioneered some mechanized loading applications such as pumpable watergels in piller
recovery, cartridge loading in trenching, uphole loading techniques and emulsion repump systems in development
blasting. He has published a number of papers covering a variety of topics on high speed photography, mechanical
loading methods, seismic vibration analysis, wall control techniques and blast fragmentation assessment.
He has presented key note lectures at various conferences, universities and seminars throughout
the world. Tom resides in northern Ontario, Canada and is a member of OACETT, CIM and ISEE.
